X Acto Blades

An X Acto Knife is slightly different to a standard Stanley knife. They are basically a much finer version, with a small aluminum handle that looks similar to a pen. On the end the blades attach, which are used for fine art work and are considerably sharper and easier to use than a normal Stanley Cutter! X Acto has been around since 1917, and the company started by producing syringes for the medical profession. Not long after they started making precision surgical blades, which had a handle that could have the blades changed to suit the job that was at hand.

In 1960 the company created a tool division for the hobby market, and this has continued to grow today. The knives that you can buy today are amazing, and designed for those that want to do really fine work. Of course, the cutting comes down to the X Acto Blades, which are designed to stay sharp for a long time. They are designed to make the careful and detailed cuts that you require time and time again. The original X Acto Blades have been used for more than 50 years, and they are now known as the standard for precision. The blades are made of carefully sharpened carbon steel, which makes them strong and long lasting. There are a number of knives and blades out there which are similar, but if they aren’t X Acto then you will notice the difference very quickly. X Acto Blades are made to be interchangeable, which is handy for doing every little job that there is. These are much smaller, sharper and precise than standard Utility Knife Blades.

What it comes down to is that most of the knives on the market are too big and clumsy to be used for such fine work. Having something that you can grip like a pen makes the work much easier and you can control exactly what you want. You will find that all of the other take offs are cheap and nasty, and much less comfortable and easy to use.

A good set isn’t going to set you back too much, and with blades that are designed for literally any purpose, you are bound to build up a set that does what you want it to. Don’t be afraid to spend a bit extra on something that has been proven over many decades; it eventually saves you money in the long run. There is nothing worse than buying cheap products only to find that you have to continually replace them!
